Kris Holboke was born January 17, 1969. He attended Milwaukie High School and graduated in 1987. As a child, Kris began playing with broken sticks from his backyard on his parent’s empty coffee cans and pots. While he was growing up he started playing different percussion instruments and competed in rudimental snare competitions. He went to Oregon state competitions, and from the instruction and mentoring of Don Worth Jr. he wound up beating out kids that were 5 years older than him. He was also an adjunct instructor at the high school in the jazz band on his own time, and gave private lessons to friends on weekends. While attending high school and several years thereafter, Kris has been involved in different musical styles and varieties. He has mainly played rock and metal, but also has influences in different jazz groups, including involvement with the Mt Hood Jazz festival in 1990-1992. He has been in too many different bands to list over the years. In the early 1980’s Kris played around with his first drum kit in his parent’s basement while the neighbors were at work. In late 1992, He joined the USAF and served for almost ten years. He is now considered a disabled Veteran of the first Gulf war. In that time of traveling the world, he was in numerous bands in Florida and Tacoma. He also played for the marching quintet in 1998 and was a part of the USAF drum corps. Kris’s drumming technique and his non – traditional methods of playing choices and agility, got him much attention and praise. His influences are quite extraordinary, and of much variety.
Kris currently works in Estacada at Reliance Connects as a help desk consultant. He has finished his Bachelors of Science degree in Information Technology, with honors in March of 2012 from Kaplan University, and finished up two Associate degrees, one from the Community College of the Air Force or CCAF in Business 1999, and one from DeVry University in Network Administration in 2010. He is considering going back to school in 2013-2014 for his Master’s degree. Kris has lived in Estacada since early 2003 with his Wife, and is continuing to expand his education and his musical experiences.
